West Perth Cook Street Substation Expansion

Location

Perth, WA

Value

$5M – $10M

Client

Western Power

Completion Year

2026
Project Overview

Western Power, a valued long-term client of Westforce, undertook network reinforcements to support its strategic decommissioning of 66kV assets while maintaining reliable power supply to affected loads. The Cook Street substation expansion was a critical component of this network modernisation program.

Building on our established partnership, Westforce was engaged to complete these works, which was delivered in two
stages.

The project involved installation of a third dual winding 132/11/11 kV 66 MVA transformer, which required expansion
of the 132 kV GIS and a new MV (11kV) switchboard and relocation of existing 132kV CK-NP 81 cable from the existing CK806 circuit to a new 132kV cable circuit connected to a new bus section. This expansion required:

  • Civil construction (foundations, bunds, drainage, earthworks, cable trenches and suspended slabs)
  • Precast panels for relay room extension, new switchroom, new transformer bund and new GIS cable space
  • Sheet piling to accommodate basement works
  • Structural works
  • Electrical construction (relocation of 132Kv CK-NP cable, earthing, cable installation, conduits, trenching)
  • Demolition/removal works
  • Security infrastructure (fencing and gates)
  • Site reinstatement and site surfacing
  • Building mechanical, electrical and fire services

Bulk Earthworks: 1500m3 ~ | Detailed Earthworks: 500m3 ~ | Internal Roads: 150m2 ~ |
Concrete Structures: 450m3 ~ | Trenching: 300m ~ | Precast Panels: 700m2 | Sheet Piling: 350m2 ~
