History

Westforce Construction began with a few people, a clear standard, and a lot of hard work. Founded in 2006 as an earthworks and concrete specialist, the company set out to do things properly, with no shortcuts and no excuses.

Since then, we’ve grown into a leading contractor working across energy, infrastructure and resources. What’s never changed is our belief in relationships, doing the job right, and backing the people who make it all happen.

This is the story of how we got here.

Our Journey

2006
The beginning
Westforce Construction was established in Western Australia by Mike Murrey, with a focus on practical, delivery-first civil contracting. From the outset, the business was built on integrity, accountability and a strong operational presence.
2006
2007
Early team growth
The business secured its first major contract with Rio Tinto at Hope Downs, delivering civil works on a wash bay. Paddy Kearns joined the team as the company’s first engineer, strengthening our on-site delivery and supervision capacity.
2007
2010
Leadership takes shape
Phil Clarke joined the business, bringing additional capability in project management and operations. Together, Mike, Paddy and Phil built a tight-knit leadership group, focused on hands-on delivery in the resources and infrastructure sectors.
2010
2010-2012
Scaling with the sector
As the resources industry grew, so did Westforce. The company expanded its fleet and workforce to match the complexity and pace of larger scopes, with a focus on full turn key solutions for clients.
2010-2012
2012
Shareholder alignment
Paddy and Phil became equal shareholders, with a shared focus on operational leadership and structured business growth. Their approach was pragmatic and grounded in delivery, shaping the culture that continues today.
2012
2013-2017
Bigger projects, stronger systems
Project size increased during this period, with contracts up to $15 million and turnover reaching $25 million. Westforce continued to strengthen its systems and internal processes while maintaining a field-first culture.
2013-2017
2017
Partnership with Raubex
A partnership with Raubex Group South Africa JSE:RBX was established, bringing long-term backing and additional capability to support growth. This step formalised Westforce’s transition from a mid-tier contractor to a national delivery partner.
2017
2017
A permanent base
The business purchased and established its head office in Welshpool, centralising its operations and giving the growing team a base to scale from.
2017
2021
Succession and leadership transition
Founder Mike Murrey retired. Phil was appointed Managing Director, and Paddy stepped into the role of Executive Director. The transition marked the next chapter in Westforce’s leadership while maintaining continuity in culture and capability.
2021
2018-2023
Rapid growth
In this six-year period, turnover grew from $25 million to $160 million. The business scaled its delivery across civil, structural and SMP packages, taking on larger scopes in resources, energy and infrastructure. This was a period of accelerated maturity, marked by operational expansion and project diversity.
2018-2023
2024-2025
Controlled consolidation
Following rapid growth, Westforce entered a period of consolidation, stabilising annual revenue between $125 million and $150 million. The focus remains on controlled delivery, strong systems and long-term partnerships with clients, subcontractors and communities.

People have always been the backbone

Westforce’s story is built on relationships – with our clients, with each other, and with the people who’ve shown up and put in the work, year after year.

From the original crew of ten to our growing team today, our culture has stayed the same: get the work done properly, look after your team, and keep things moving forward. To the clients who’ve trusted us, the employees who’ve given their all, and the partners who’ve stood beside us. Thank you.

We’ve grown, yes – but we’ve never forgotten where we started or how we got here.

Looking ahead

With new projects in energy, infrastructure and resources on the horizon, and a team that’s sharper than ever, the next chapter is shaping up to be our best yet.

We’re focused on simplifying delivery, strengthening systems, and continuing to show up the Westforce way – with accountability, skill and a resourceful spirit.
