Project Overview

The Tropicana Wind Farm Renewables Project represents a major step toward sustainable energy integration at the Tropicana Gold Mine, located 330 km northeast of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The development comprises four 6 MW wind turbines, a 24 MW solar farm, and a 14 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

The solar installation is projected to reduce diesel and gas consumption for power generation by 96% and 50% respectively, delivering an average reduction of more than 65,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year across the life of the agreement.

Westforce was responsible for the EPC scope that included civil design and construction components (CBoP) associated with the Wind Farm, including:

  • Civil works design
  • Site investigations, surveys, and geotechnical testing
  • Design of access roads and hardstands
  • Structural design
  • Wind turbine civil works design (foundations, hardstands, roads)
  • Establishment and operation of borrow pit for earthworks materials
  • Bulk and detailed earthworks on turbine pads
  • Earthworks for solar pad and access tracks
  • Construction of turbine foundations (reinforcement, concrete, backfill)
  • Assembly of anchor cages on site
  • Construction of transformers at power station (conduits, culvert, bund slabs)

Concrete: 3,000m³ ~
Solar Farm Bulk Earthworks: 400,000m² ~
Borrow Pit: 245,000m³ ~
Access Roads and Hardstands: 4km ~
Reinforcement: 360T ~
Operational Capacity: 24MW
