Project Overview

Embarking on a transformative journey toward sustainable energy solutions, the Tropicana Wind Farm Renewables project will incorporate four 6MW wind turbines, a 24MW solar farm and a 14MW BESS Facility. The solar farm is expected to reduce Tropicana’s diesel and gas consumption for power generation by 96% and 50% respectively, slashing carbon emissions by more than 65,000 tonnes per annum on average over the life of the agreement.

Tropicana gold mine is located 330kms northeast of Kalgoorlie in remote Western Australia.

Westforce was responsible for the EPC scope that included civil design and construction components (CBoP) associated with the Wind Farm, including:

  • Civil works design
  • Pre-construction site investigations, survey, soil/ground testing, Geotech
  • Access roads and hardstand design
  • Structural design
  • Wind turbine civil works design including concrete foundations, hardstands and roads

Construction phase:

  • Establish and maintain earthworks borrow pit producing sub grade and pavement materials totalling 245,000m3
  • Bulk earthworks and detailed on turbine pads
  • Bulk earthworks on solar pad and creation of 4km access tracks
  • Construction of four foundations, including reinforcement, concrete placement, backfill
  • Assembly of anchor cages insitu
  • Construction of transformers at power station, including install of conduits, precast culvert, and concrete bund slabs
  • Concrete: 3500m3 ~
