Westforce was engaged by Downer Group to carry out civil works at Roy Hill Substation, Christmas Creek Substation and Solar Farm, and Cloudbreak locations. The project involved construction of a new 60MW solar photovoltaic (PV) generation facility at Fortescue Metals Group’s Chichester Hub iron ore operations, along with a 60-kilometer transmission line linking Fortescue’s Christmas Creek and Cloudbreak mining operations in the Pilbara.
The transmission line also connects the FMG mines to Alinta’s existing 145MW gas-fired Newman Power Station and its 35MW battery storage system. As the main offtaker of the project, Fortescue has reduced diesel consumption by approximately 100 million liters annually.
