Project Overview

Westforce was engaged to deliver the Cane River Crossing section for Mineral Resources’ Onslow Iron Haulage Road. This critical infrastructure project is part of the broader Onslow Iron project, designed to facilitate the efficient transport of iron ore from mine sites to the port facilities in Onslow.

The Onslow Iron Haulage Road has been specifically designed for the use of autonomous road trains. These advanced vehicles will carry Onslow Iron products along a 150km dedicated, fenced, and sealed haulage road. This design not only enhances safety and efficiency but also establishes the shortest pit-to-port distance in the Australian mining industry.

Westforce’s involvement in the project included the construction of a 600 meter single carriageway river bridge, consisting of the installation of 170 large 3.6m high box culverts with 2km of concrete road and bridging deck as well as:

  • Temporary works to safely execute and deliver the project, including crane pads, access tracks, formwork design, scaffold, and falsework
  • Bulk and detailed earthworks
  • In-situ concrete works for base slabs, cut-off walls, wingwalls/endwalls, concrete pavement, and other in-situ concrete elements within the battery limits, including:
  • Supply and installation of formwork, reinforcement, and cast-ins
  • Coordination and installation of company-supplied concrete
  • Installation of precast box culverts, precast L-wall retaining walls, subbase material beneath concrete pavement, and rock pitching material
  • Supply and installation of Monowills handrail and guideposts within the extents of the concrete structure
  • Traffic management
