PROJECT OVERVIEW

Westforce were contracted to provide upgrade works to the existing electrical security fence at Western Power's Southern Terminal substation in Bibra Lake, Western Australia.

PROJECT SCOPE

  • Demolition of existing electrical security fencing
  • Temporary fencing
  • Installation of new electrical security fencing (height 3.5m, length 1,500m ~)
  • Pavements - Subbase, basecourse (recycled road base) asphalt & kerbing
  • Earthworks
  • Installation of LV electrical & communications infrastructure
  • Switch room upgrade
  • External & internal access roads
  • Installation of new swipe access hardware to the fence and relay rooms
  • Supply & installation of an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) to security system networking hardware
  • Security maintenance (1 year after contract completion)

The upgrade requirements also included the provision and installation of an anti-tunnelling slab that surrounded the functioning electrical substation. A new earth ring was installed along the perimeter of the fence for equipotential bonding.

Fencing was mounted with state-of-the-art thermal imaging cameras and vibration detection sensors calibrated to detect intrusion attempts and linked back to Western Power’s security team at their head office located on Wellington Street in the Perth CBD.

The fence was serviced by two new roads that were installed around it's footprint (one internal asphalt road and one external road-base finished road).
